Ezer Power

With all that is going in our lives and in the world, it is easy to become weak with fatigue and fear. Concerns for our future and that of our children and the nation often cause us to feel helpless and hopeless. In times such as this, we must remember that we are a part of a royal Kingdom, and we have a King! God is calling on His Kingdom women to come forth and overcome. Being bold, strong, courageous, and brave is our true identity as women of God.

Is fear holding you back from pursuing the plan of God for your life? You may not think you are a fear-filled person; however, the inferiorities, insecurities, poor self-image, rejections, and hurts we feel are all rooted in fear. These feelings and battles cause us to withdraw instead of boldly moving forward and claiming our rightful positions in our King’s Kingdom. We must daily claim our place in the Kingdom as we worship our King. His strength then becomes our strength.

The world teaches women to be strong through their own efforts. The world tells us to be brazen and do anything to get ahead. The strength of the world looks nothing like the strength of Christ in us. At all times, we must review which strength we are functioning in. Philippians 4:13 declares, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” (KJV). When we realize that our strength is in Him, we can move forward with boldness and humility. As Zechariah 4:6 tells us, it is “not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts” (KJV).

As His Kingdom women, our God and King has placed inside us a warrior identity. It’s known as an Ezer (ay-zer), and we see it first translated as “helper” in the creation account. “Helper” in Genesis 2:18 comes from the Hebrew word, Ezer. It is used twenty-two times in the Old Testament; twice in the creation story, and throughout the rest of the Old Testament, it is always used in military settings with swords and shields. Fourteen times, God is the Ezer helping His people to fight the enemy. We are called to be helpers or a helpmeets; this is a military term. Isn’t it amazing that women have often diminished the word helpmeet as though it was a negative term, when it is actually a military term?

As daughters of the King, we are created to walk side by side with man, pushing back the darkness, subduing, and taking dominion over the earth. God never intended for His women to be images of weakness. Second Timothy 1:7 boldly states, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (KJV). This is extraordinary to consider. He states, “of a sound mind.” Where do fear and its many tentacles originate? In the mind. Our King gives us the promise of a sound mind! He keeps us in perfect peace when our minds are stayed on Him (Is. 26:3).

When the enemy roars at you with sickness, roars at you with financial burdens, roars at you with marriage problems, roars at you with broken relationships, and roars at you with crises and heartaches, quickly lift the sword of the Spirit and speak boldly to the problem, like a warrior princess! Like an Ezer! The power to overcome is in your identity in Christ Jesus!

Proverbs 31 is known as the “Virtuous Woman” chapter of the Bible. The example of this woman can be intimidating, but this is a woman who has been transformed in every way. She stands as our example for years of learning and growing in our walk with our King. The word for “virtuous” in this outstanding chapter is the Hebrew word, Chayil. This word is found over 200 times in the Bible, and it always describes an army. It refers to a force, and it means “an army, able, capable, mighty, strong, valiant, powerful, efficient, and worthy.”  Understanding this is exciting because it clearly reveals that our King has created us to be strong and to overcome.

Being in the army of God, we must be trained to win battles and to overcome the war zones of our lives. We are trained on how to use our sword (the Bible) over and over again. When you learn the skills of His sword, you will learn how to obey His voice (commanding officer), and He will direct you through the minefields of life.

I read an interesting account of an actor who was in the movie, Black Hawk Down. He was portraying a Marine, and he decided to spend some time before the filming with a squad of Marines. He said that he had no idea what was involved in being a Marine, and he had thought that all Marines were naturally heroic. But after spending weeks with them, he said that what they were was prepared. They trained over and over so that when a battle came, they knew exactly what to do. Their responses became instinct. We must learn the Word and God’s commands so well that it becomes instinctive to respond to battles by His Spirit. Training doesn’t guarantee we will never fail; but it does guarantee that we will get back up and do the right thing. Karate teaches a person how to fall, so they will learn over and over how to get back up! They practice until it becomes instinct.

Ephesians 1:19 tells us about “the exceeding greatness of His power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of His mighty power” (KJV). The Greek word for “power” is the same as our English words: hyper-mega-dynamite power. King Jesus has strengthened your inner being and is training you to respond like Him instinctively. His Spirit in you is so much bigger than your flesh. With this inner spiritual power, you will overcome any adverse situation the enemy puts in your path. Nothing will stop you from believing that “you can do all things through Him that strengthens you,” and you will fulfill your destiny to help, minister, and serve others.

You are an Ezer!
