Creating a sacred place of prayer in your home is vital for starting your day and having a place of refuge. We are living in extremely challenging times in our world. People are faced with fear, health issues, financial hardships, loneliness, isolation, hopelessness, political unrest, division, and lawlessness. If ever there was a time when we needed to pray and seek God, it is now! We are in a war and we must prepare for battle. When the pandemic first started last March, the Lord woke me up at 3:30 in the morning. I heard very strongly in my spirit, “This is not a time to be passive!”
Now is the time for the body of Christ to wake up. We should not step onto a battlefield without the proper armor. We must have a sacred place that is set apart where we can go to pray, hear God, and enter His presence. We need clarity, direction, peace, and strength. We need to open our hearts and seek God’s cleansing and direction for our lives.
Creating a sacred place that is set apart and dedicated to the Lord will truly be a blessing in your life. Having a sacred place creates an atmosphere of praise and worship and will usher in the presence of God. It is a place to commune with God, be still, and hear the Lord. Spending this time in your prayer room will help you realign things and bring order to your life. Your sacred space is a place to petition God and believe for great things. We serve a big God! Lastly, it is a place to go to do battle in prayer.
How to Create Your Sacred Space:
1. Find an extra room in your home: It could be an office, spare room, closet, or any space where you can create a quiet place to pray.
2. Start by creating a canvas or backdrop of color: Choose paint colors that are soft, peaceful, restful, and calming.
3. Add furnishings: A sweet love seat or chair, an accent or end table, bookcase, and baskets to organize your Bible, books, journal, pens, etc.—all can make the room comfortable and organized.
4. Lighting: Add canned lights, a chandelier, a table or floor lamp, or some pretty wall sconces to create soft lighting.
5. Art: This should be inspiring, beautiful, peaceful, and pleasant to look at. It can create a focal point in the room, set the tone, and create a theme.
6. Area rug: An area rug will anchor the room and soften the space. Make sure the rug is large enough to set part of the furnishings on. Use soft, natural fibers of wool, cotton, and texture to make it light and airy or to give it a pop of color.
7. Window coverings: A soft flat roman shade or simple drapery panels in a natural or soft white linen give the space a simple, clean, and elegant feel.
8. Candles: The right candle can bring warmth, peace, and tranquility. Candles can also add a beautiful fragrance to the room.
9. Music: A wireless Bluetooth speaker for worship songs or messages will bring the healing presence of God into the room.
10. Fresh flowers: There is nothing like the aroma and beauty of fresh flowers! They bring beauty, pureness, fragrance, and love. They are a reminder of the amazing beauty that God has created. They are a special gift from God that brings joy to the heart!
After you have created your sacred place, begin to discipline yourself to set a time to meet with the Lord consistently. Make it a daily habit to begin your day in worship. Pray, journal, seek the face of God, be still and listen to the Holy Spirit. God will give you direction.
Ask God to show you His divine plan and purpose for your life. Create a vision board; start declaring and visualizing what you want in your life.
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you, and you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart” (Jer. 29:11-13 NKJV).
“Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry” (Hab. 2:2 NKJV).
Ask God how He can use you for His Kingdom in such a time as this. There are so many people facing tragedy, loss, pain, hopelessness, confusion, and fear. Ask the Lord to show you His truth in everything and ask Him for divine wisdom.
Can you find ways to be a light in a dark and hurting world? We are called to be the salt of the earth and a light to the world. When we take our eyes off ourselves and find ways to bless others, we will experience true joy and peace! Imagine if more people started coming together in unity, sharing, giving, and truly loving one another. The world would be brighter.
